About Us

Our History

The International Sri Krishna Mandir (ISKM) has its roots in Singapore. Sri Krishna Mandir (SKM) is the original name by which the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement has been operating in Singapore since 1997.

In 2006, we spread to Malaysia in a small way when we purchased a 4-acre land for a farm near a town called Kota Tinggi in the state of Johor. But it was only from 2011 that the expansion started to happen rapidly and the footprint of ISKM has expanded to more than 12 countries. On the 27th of June, 2016, the day after the grand and popular Ratha Yātrā celebration in Singapore, all the SKM leaders from our different countries assembled and we had our first international meeting.

In that meeting, we decided that we would rename ourselves as International Sri Krishna Mandir as we have become truly international. The legal names of our societies in all our countries of operation were not going to change (at least not immediately) but we added the word International to celebrate our international presence in the service of Śrīla Prabhupāda.

The formulation of this website iskm.international was also one of the points of discussion. This website would showcase news and philosophical articles from all our different temples across our ever-increasing spectrum of countries.

OUR FOUNDER

Of all his contributions, Srila Prabhupada considered his books to be of utmost importance. These books present the timeless wisdom of Vedic scriptures in modern English with startling clarity and a convincing, simple eloquence that proves the relevance of the science of self realization to our modern world and our own lives. These books have changed the lives of millions. Srila Prabhupada encouraged the devotees to distribute this literature profusely. These books are translated in most of the major languages and are widely distributed across the world.

HOW WE GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

SKM Welfare Society is a registered non-profit charitable organization based in Singapore, run solely by the efforts of monks and volunteers who are not remunerated by any salary. It is our mission to address the important and necessary basic human need which is food, regardless of race, creed, language or religion.

WHAT WE PRACTICE

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, is thus defined by Shri Parashara Muni as one who is full in six opulences—who has full strength, fame, wealth, knowledge, beauty, and renunciation.

All through His life five thousand years back, Krishna had continually engaged in various pastimes that establish the fact that He possesses all the six opulences in full. Krishna exhibited unlimited strength. His strength was present from the moment of His birth.

OUR SAMPRADAYA

The correct process of receiving knowledge in any field is approaching a bona fide institute. Similarly, transcendental knowledge should be received through a bona fide disciplic succession

In Bhagavad-gita (4.2) Lord Krishna says:

evam parampara-praptam
imam rajarsayo viduh
sa kaleneha mahata
yogo nastah parantapa
